Hope You’re Having a Good Day

I find a poet’s performance
Their thoughts spill into mine
They touch something I can’t name

I am human
I want to touch another human
Maybe this will do it for me

I think of you first

I find you
I type
I type again
I place the poem

I pause

I taste unease

I remember
It’s not a shiny little pebble
It’s a dull rock
Hard and brutal

Brutal

I backspace
I backspace
I backspace all the way out of this fucking window
Back into my head where I belong

The winning mantra echoes in my skull

I will not share
I will refrain
I will bury it alive

Because

Sharing pebbles is for naive fools
Is for idiots

This is what it means to shrink

Tossing stones is for those who want
Who want to be eaten alive

This is what it means to be ok

Sharing pebbles is for naive fools
Is for idiots

“Hope you’re having a good day”

Opening the heart is for those who
Who want to bleed out

“I’m doing great”
