When I’m Just Too Tired to Argue

You’re so patient, you brutal beast!

I had you all wrong
You were looking out for me this whole time
Loving me in nature’s way
Planting those seeds I cruelly called lies
When I should have been trusting you all along

Deep down, I know you’re right
The weak counter strikes are the delusions
My clenched fists wildly swinging
Like daydreams, these vain hopes
Are sometimes hard to let go

You’re so patient, you nasty terror!

Today I press on
Fueled by the spite your tough love taught me
But please let me choose the delusions for a time
Give me a little longer
This is nothing compared to eternity, anyway

Some day in the future
You’ll finally get your way
I’ll cave to your most reasonable demands
When I send us both to the oblivion
You’ve been pulling me towards for so long

You’re my ride-or-die, most honest friend!

You keep me real
You keep me honest
You keep me in check
You keep me chained
For my own good

Forgiving my mistrust again and again
When others come, you warn me
When they inevitably leave, you stay
At my side, always
My most gracious and constant companion

You were born with me to die with me

Sometimes I just don’t feel like arguing anymore.
