Coexist for how much longer?

Ocean of thoughts crushes under its depths
Thoughts intrude from the inside but almost as if from others
I know they can’t live without me
But, in their insistence on return, it seems
I can’t live without them, either

With harsh echoes they assure me that, yes,
Others I share this world with
(One foot in, one foot out, always)
Will all leave one day, eventually
Trickling away one at a time

Wound after wound
Some deeper than others
But all indelible

Nothing lasts forever
Least of all myself
Why not beg others’ forgiveness
And dare to step ahead of them

Some hurt is the estate I’d leave behind
Perhaps sharp, but surely brief
Far more brief than what remains for me here
And if they understood that, surely they would forgive
And go on to make me a distant memory
Soon to be forgotten entirely
