Patient Rebellion

Sometimes
it feels like
the greatest act of rebellion
I have ever done
when the thoughts
begin to stagger
when the sentences
are stuttering
when the will
is faltering
is
to choose
nothing

To choose inaction
when I am split through the middle

To choose stillness
when am divided

To choose to wait
for the stray pieces to return

To choose perseverance
until I am whole again

To choose to delay
is to survive

This is the quietest
most socially acceptable revolt
against the greatest enemy

Patience is more than a virtue
it’s survival
but it’s a finite resource
and I’m running out
