I left my shoes behind when my feet got stuck in the asphalt
I had to leave them behind when I walked right into this mess that I didn’t see
Clear tides are hiding nothing tonight
Swirling about my feet
Rising past my ankles
Then tickling my knees
Slowly
…
I’m supposed to go home
But it’s so much work
It’s so far upstream
And I’m already so tired
…
A little more time
A pause
Life on hold
Pause, pause, pause
Many breaths
With enough breaths
A day has passed
And death is once again
As it should be
Reviled
September 1 – 4, 2025
Often, we just need to wait it out.
Behind the wheel, keeping my eyes on the road
somehow lowers shields around my mind.
As I drive the comfort of familiar grey,
you’re able to sneak inside,
creeping on tippy-toes without a sound.
Every success, invigorating;
Every hug, affirming…
Some days it’s a bridge
Some days it’s a rainbow
Whatever it is today…
…While I have not lived your life
I have lived mine
And mine has lead me to exactly who I am today…
Glowing with moonlight
From a clear sky
After a wicked storm:
Remember this!
Sometimes
it feels like
the greatest act of rebellion
I have ever done
when the thoughts
begin to stagger
when the sentences
are stuttering
when the will
is faltering
is
to choose
nothing
I was not prepared for this
Stage of life I find myself in
Things were improving with years
Until they weren’t
And my shadow form has started punching down
In ways I could never see coming
After shoving me into the ring
