Winter returning
Falling through the world to split
Open on frozen ground
Autumn wind brings chill
Is that beast that haunts me more
Hungry or lonely
Night sky as always
Will I awaken relieved
To be breathing still
Autumn leaves drifting:
Longing to see them return
Friend’s homecoming nigh
Silence pervasive:
Battlefield spread before me
Sunrise glints sharply
Quiet return drive
Dark cool evening brings with it
Surge my eyes ignore
Drifting untethered:
Appearing as morning sun
Friendship most needed
Sun warming maples
Reaching across an ocean
Friend’s calm hand steadies
Sun blends into moon
Friend’s love a shiny pebble
Held close and treasured
(About supportive comfort from a distant friend. For M.)

Hidden underground
There is nothing to be heard
But my blood coursing
Silent sunless place
In this dissociation
Brief liberation
(On sitting in my car in a silent dark garage.)

Starless sky reflects
Empty void disconnection
Face dry in repose
Tides creeping to shore
Brief feelings in rare surges
Eyes will not obey
Low sun autumn sky
Those I pass by in the world
Each flawed each perfect
