To the Young Woman at the Coffee Shop Today

Young woman at the coffee shop, complete stranger, trusting myself and my friend to guard your expensive technology so you could leave the room for a break — your trust in us was heartwarming.

I have to wonder, did you really believe that if someone were to dare try to take your gear, that my friend and I would step up? Did something about us strike you as particularly trustworthy, or were we just conveniently close and you’re someone who has a tendency to trust others because/when you need to? Neither my friend nor myself are particularly intimidating ladies, so I’m more inclined to think that it’s just in your nature to assume good from others.

Somehow, I was particularly struck by this today. Young lady at the coffee shop, your trust sparked a little bit of love. I hope no one ever gives you reason to lose that level of trust in others.

May you eat the world rather than the world eat you.
