The Last Thing I See

My cold, dark feeling
My hidden wisdom so hard to find
My searching for everyone who’s fled and scattered and hid

My chilled sinew and shivering marrow
My joy in the soft warmth of a cat’s fur
My contentment in the long darks that cloak me in obscurity

My winter
My consumption
My longest night consuming the world around me

My winter
My coming home in the dead of it finding your breath crystallizing on my lashes

My winter
My sweet home
May it be the last thing I see when I close my eyes
