Waiting Softly

Waiting so softly with gentle anticipation,
my little fingers explore dangerous city streets
that hide under virtual black and stars.

I’m waiting for the real nightfall to cloak me,
to hold me close between mystery and obfuscation,
to give me another chance,
to give me a little longer.

I’m waiting for you, o reason!
Why do you recoil into my shadows?

I’m waiting to disappear for a time.

I’m waiting for you, o calm rationality!
Why do you so deftly dodge my every reach?

I’m waiting to try again.

I’m waiting for you.
So softly, so patiently…
I’m waiting for you, still,
your most loving daughter!

Where have you gone?
Why did you run so far away?
I’m trying to give you another chance!

Do you not love me?
Have you not, ever, truly loved me,
your most apologetic daughter?

Why won’t you give me another chance?
