There’s a kind of love for our first kin
Universally defensible, globally understood
Truly unconditional
There’s another for those we find briefly
For months or years
Sharing our space and time
Where captivations intersect
Yet another is reserved for so few
Bearing rings and keys
Sharing bathrooms and kitchens and beds
Those are many loves
Yet there is still at least one more kind
Perhaps the most important
There remains a kind of love in this world
That can connect two by invisible threads
Revealing for each of you
Your truths invisible to the eye
A kind that will walk with you
And when you fumble and drop
Pieces of you in the cold grass
Will gently place it back into your hands
A kind that will portage you
To where you can paddle again
When you become fixed
Unable to drift
A kind that will arrive unexpectedly
Taking you by surprise as
Sharing hidden corners of themselves
Somehow reveals who you are
And teaches you to be whole
