Let it Remain

The most powerful thing
To bring my fears, front and centre
Undeniable before me
With greater power than even
My own disastrous ruminations is

How your voice somehow seems richer to me when you say their name
How your eyes look different in ways my mind cannot quite fully grasp
When you speak of them
When you share with me the plans your heart carries
Of your greatest possible future

I see it radiate through all your carefully reasoned
Logic
Mature wisdom
And pragmatic caution

Basking in that warmth
I, who never pray, beg the universe:

Make it all real
Make it their world
Use me in any way you may need
Give them a safe, blissful field of flowers
To drink the overflow from their well
And when they walk away with their hand in another
Smiling all the way from their heart to their eyes
Let the void left in their wake
Swallow all of my fears

If you can’t do that
I will stay afraid if I must
But, please: fearful or not, if you can
Just let all that they’ve given me
Remain

.
