Another Unwanted Visitor

The deep black brought me another
In its chemically-induced night under the sun
Unlike the last, this one more recent
And rather than lightly sad
This one bitter

In these dreamscapes
Faces usually void
This time, loud and clear
Only one flash of memory stands
That former ally clear as day
As if insisting they make their presence known
From my subconscious
Somehow fitting

Why does the deepest sleep insist on
Dismissing those I would keep close
Before compressing timelines just to pull
Unwanted phantoms from their burials
As if to remind me those not yet gone
Like the ones before them
Soon will be

.
