I (Don’t) Want Her Back

The drugs eased, but still
My heart rate slowed to a new low and sleep returned
This time dreaming of the return of a long lost friend

I wandered hallways painted mint green
Until I found my lost home
Where she returned to my arms
As if she had never left
She held me close on soft blankets
Not as lovers
But as mother and child
And that made sense

She dressed fashionably
In a way that wasn’t the she I remember at all
So I couldn’t forget
It wasn’t really her

She’ll never come back
She hates me and she’ll never come back

It took some time upon waking to remember
I don’t want her back
So why was she here?
