Tell Them What I Am

If you can see me
If you can see parts of me that I cannot
Tell me so
Describe them to me
Tell me what I’m like
Tell me what I am
Tell me what’s inside me

Are there good things that make me worthwhile?
Do I have kindness? Empathy?
Do I bring others comfort in times of strife?

Is there wisdom?
Does my advice carry any weight at all
Or is it wind through a chasm
Howling nothing?

Like a guide for the blind
Please, for my sake
Tell me what’s within

What about power?
Power to defend, power to assault?
Do I have any fight in me, or am I meek?
Is whatever strength I seem to have true, or is it
As the scorpions with huge claws
To intimidate, compensating for weak venom?

For those around me
Please, for those who love me
Tell them what I am
