Social Firefly

Rarely seen under the daytime sun
Appearing from time to time
Collecting energy enough to gleam
Her tiny focused light
Is easiest spotted in the dark
But hopes to still spark delight
In those that need a little joy

The firefly is hard to spot during the day
But she’s still around
Waiting for the chance to light up again
To bring somebody comfort

The firefly wishes
She could harness enough energy
To glow for longer
Than her brief forays
But accepts her limitations
And knows her need
For frequent rest, frequent quiet
Frequent solitude

The firefly secretly wishes
To be seen in the daytime too
But accepts her nature
As part of the way of things
Happy just to make smiles
