An Observation of a Very Common Human Trait

Some people are so perpetually bemused
They will ask for something
They will make a very specific request
Of exactly what they want
And then when the other agrees
And prepares it for them, bagging it up all nicely
With utensils and napkins for their comfort
Calling out to them that it’s all ready
(Just as they asked for it)
They don’t even notice

Holding the request, someone calls out to them
Again and again
Probably wishing they could just shout
“Here’s the exact thing you asked for! Where are you?”
But of course everyone has
Much more important things on their mind
So no one is paying attention

Eventually, the requester will realize
They’ve been waiting a while
So they go looking for what they asked for
Asking for it again, finally receiving it
And then leave without giving it a second thought.

We request, we wait for it, then we don’t even notice
When it’s right in front of us
Waiting for us to take it
