Penguin Pebbling

Last Wednesday I learned the term “penguin pebbling”, which I think is just adorable. It comes from how penguins will try to find the smoothest stone they can to present to their mate, but the term is also used to describe the autistic tendency to display affection for any trusted friends or loved ones by gifting small tokens… sometimes literal rocks, or feathers, or seashells, or any little items that fascinate them.

I think I learned to surpress this early on, but it may come out in other ways, this instinctive show of affection and/or trust. Some even thing that sharing memes is a modern equivalent. I’m always wanting to share my food, for example. Or, I get a multi-pack of little keychains or fidget toys I like, and I want to distribute them. Whenever I find something I really like, I want others to find it too.
